--------------------- PKlinux v.2.0 (mini) --------------------- Wed Jun 13 15:30:00 PKT 2001 Documentation by Abdul Basit ----------------------------- Contact: basit@basit.yi.org basit@rehan.com Why PKlinux(mini) ? ------------------- PKlinux(mini) is a very small linux distribution intended for following purposes :- - As a emergency repair disk for your actual linux/dos as it offer many more things beside just a boot/root diskette . - For new users who want to try linux/unix in general before putting it heavily on their systems(making partitions etc) . - The default kernel can mount read/write many filesystems such as NTFS,ext2fs,sco,ufs,cdromfs(with ISO joilet extensions),reiserfs etc and that can be used for various purposes according to your needs. - It is based on 2.4.5 kernel . - Wide range of general/GNU utilities are included and default shell is bash 2.05 . - It supports ppp dialup connections .... and you can ftp/telnet to some host also. - It supports netfilter 1.2.2 firewall. - A default iptables.sh is included that will masquerade connections - More hardware is supported .. - Check http://www2.linuxpakistan.net/pklinux/pk2-hw.txt for hardware supports. How can I login in PKLinux? --------------------------- After extracting the files from the pkmini.zip file into some folder , run start.bat .. 2 user accounts comes up with default distribution Username = root , password = No password Username = pklinux, password = pklinux+88 Hey Its based on RAMDISK , Can i make my data persistant? --------------------------------------------------------- Ya , the distibution zip files comesup with pkfs.dat This is a raw loopback device file , which can used for putting your data in some safe position , what you have to do after you 'r login is mount -t /dev/hdax /mnt where x = 1 ---> 9 , Replace x so that it corresponds to your DOS partition where you have put the pkmini.img/pkfs.dat file . then do mount -o loop /mnt/foldername/pkfs.dat /pkdata where foldername is the directory name that contains your pklinux distribution files. now whatever you do in /pkdata will not be lost on reboot. you have 2.1 MB space to write something in /pkdata What the hell is this nonsense? ------------------------------- If you scream like this , you might be a unix guru or extermely new unix user. so what can i do for you? nah! :-) Who is maintainer ? ------------------ Me? no ? why ? Oh yes i'm the only stupid guy who has much free time to do stupid things (may be easy) ........ anyway! Maintainer is basit and this distribution is basically derived from RedHat 6.1 library files except that i've stripped all local/debug symbols from everything to make them small .. Bye ...........
